Man arrested in missing hiker case – Crime & courts- msnbc.com:“ATLANTA – Authorities said Saturday they believe a hiker who disappeared from the northern Georgia woods on New Year’s Day is dead, and they charged the man who was reportedly last seen with her with kidnapping.” I do have a few things to say on this matter.I have hiked the particular area where this poor girl disappeared on numerous occasions. Never have I once encountered anyone suspicious. Never have I encountered anything out of the ordinary. And never have I encountered any situations that gave me the least bit of a feeling of unease. In fact, everybody I’ve ever run into up there was as friendly as your best friend and always willing to help out another hiker, whatever their needs … Read entire article »

Our Chocolate Lab
This is Hershey, our Chocolate Lab. She doesn’t live with us though, she lives with my wife’s parents. I was playing around with the camera while the in-laws were in town last week and managed to catch this one. Originally posted 2008-10-13 07:15:00. Got a lot of writing in, and I feel accomplished.
It’s been a very busy weekend. Friday morning, while I intended to skip out this week due to my CYOA obligation, I wrote my Fiction Friday story. I wasn’t feeling the prompt at all, but because of New2WritingGirl’s threat of certain death I decided it was in my best interest to give in and write something. What the hell, I needed the practice. Saturday I wrote my first ending, the ending to my own story, for the CYOA project and yesterday I wrote the other two. My second ending is my favorite. And of course, you’ll have to wait till it’s released to read it. I’m not giving anything away here. I fear retaliation from the Grand Poobah of the CYOA. I can’t see them, but I know they’re there: the snipers … Read entire article »

I’m glad I never became a mechanic.
Sometimes I think I should have become a mechanic. Then again, no. No only no, but hell no. My main reason (and well justified, if I do say so): whatever happens to the car after you’ve worked on it, no matter that it had nothing to do with anything you did, it’s your fault. Ad to that the fact I view working on cars as a necessity (when things break on my daily drivers) and a little bit of a hobby (on my Trans Am), I absolutely hate working on other peoples’ cars. And you know what? Sometimes I don’t have the knowledge or tools necessary to get the job done. I have a big beef with mechanics. Long gone are the days of real, actual mechanics. Nowadays we have “technicians”. Don’t … Read entire article »

A little update on what’s been happening in my world lately.
How about some news? I know I said I was going to get back into blogging, and I fully intend to. I’ve just been really busy around here lately, what with getting ready to go back to school and all. Want the low-down skinny on what’s been going on the past month? Well, here you go (hope you brought something to play with because this is going to get a little boring). Four weeks ago I was laid off from my job of two and a half years. Yeah, the one I went to after being laid off from a seven year job. In short, the economy sucks and the product we specialized in was nothing more than eye candy for buildings and as a result is usually one of the first … Read entire article »

Why I Hate Fireworks Shows
Last night I went to see my first fireworks show in I don’t know how many years. I’ve never gotten any enjoyment out of them. When I was little I was always forced to go and when I did go, I saw the same thing. People would go to these shows, play their patriotic songs, wear their American flags, and “Ooh!” and “Aah!” at the fireworks. To me it was all just a guise, a way for people to show off and say “Hey, look at me! I’m patriotic!” Where are these people during the rest of the year?Such was my feeling with church, and precisely the reason I don’t go nowadays. That’s another subject for another post though. My wife asked me if I wanted to go last night and … Read entire article »

Into the Wild
Yesterday evening I sat down to watch Into the Wild, the story of Christopher McCandless who after graduating from Emory University here in Atlanta in 1990, gave his life savings ($24,000) to charity and abandoned all of his worldly possessions and headed north to Alaska.Oh what the hell, go read about his life here. Too much to type here.Seeing this film brought back from the dead a long-lived desire to do exactly the same thing; abandon my modern life and go live off the land, free of society’s constraints and the dependency on other people to live. That was exactly what I was going to do after I graduated from High School thirteen years ago. I had planned on heading North to Canada or Alaska, even Colorado or Wyoming, in … Read entire article »

Expression 4
Expression of 4 … Your Potential Natural Talents and Abilities Let’s see what this one comes up with. “The height of self-expression for you is when you are caught up on all of your work, the house is clean, the bills are paid and everything is in perfect order.”Um…no. Chaos is my name. “You are the number that covets civilization and all of its contents the most.”True. “If life could be defined as a machine you are the nuts and bolts that holds everything together.”Damn straight. It’s all about me! “You believe that action speaks volumes more than words and express your respect and love for others by using a practical down-to-earth approach. You believe the greatest path to your own personal truth is to live by your personal convictions.”I … Read entire article »

Vacation time in San Francisco
Yep, that’s where I was for a few days last week. I took my wife out there for a short vacation. In lieu of our normal Las Vegas vacation or a trip to my parents’ beach house, we decided it was time we did something different. My wife has always wanted to go to San Francisco, and the last time I was there was over twenty years ago, so I figured I’d take her out there and see some of the old sights again. We thought the flight out was going to be bad; there was a screaming baby right next to us (as in directly across the aisle) on the plane. She cried dramatically, but shut up and fell asleep as soon as we lifted off. The weather wasn’t so great and our … Read entire article »

Three down, more to go.
This afternoon I submitted my third article to a certain yet-unnamed website. Well, fourth if you want to get technical about it. I wrote one this morning and submitted it but I turned around and recalled it when I got home from work. I spent all day thinking about it and decided I didn’t like the way it read. I actually pulled posts from my old blog and reworked them to be more readable to a general audience. In my previous blog I targeted a certain audience and leaned a little too far to the smart-assy side of things in my posts. I don’t think that would go over so well in this new medium. As of right now my articles are under review. I do have more in mind and will … Read entire article »
