Seven Days of Terror is now worldwide!

So today I got bored at lunch and pulled up the Internet on my pocket PC / cell phone and Googled myself. I really wanted to see if I was back up on Amazon yet – I was on there initially back when I actually released the book in April but shortly found myself unlisted – but much to my surprise I found Seven Days of Terror not only on Amazon, but being listed on websites worldwide as well.
I’ve enjoyed a handful of sales since its release, enough to treat myself to a new Logitech VX Nano wireless mouse to use with my laptop. He calls it the Acer writin’ machine, he does! With global distribution available now, I may actually start selling enough to go buy that Movado watch I had my eye on the last time we went to Sam’s.
I’m working on my next book now. I won’t give out any details except to say that it’s going to be probably four to five times longer than Seven Days of Terror, and just one story this time. The first chapter has been in the works for a month now and every time I sit down to bring it to an end, another idea flows through my fingers and the end seems to drift farther and farther away the closer I get to it, kind of like the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It’s in 6″x9″ format – that’s the smallest size I can get and still have myself listed as the publisher – and it’s currently thirteen pages and eleven sub-chapters long. If I could print it in the standard 4″x7″ size you see in the racks at grocery stores and pharmacies, there would obviously be more. But I like the 6″x9″ size.
I’m planning to start writing the twelfth sub chapter tonight. The last time I worked on it I started at page eight and ended up where it is now, page thirteen. My writing is very sporadic; it comes when it wants to and when it doesn’t, I can’t force it.
How many pages can I add tonight?

Fiction Friday #167

This week’s Fiction Friday prompt:

Strains of Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry Be Happy” floated into the room.

Someone other than me has published me!

I’m happy to announce (brag) that my first article has been published on Associated Content. Currently I have five more in the line to get published and they will show up as the days go by. This particular article is titled Scramble Those Eggs like a Pro. Check it out!

And now I’m off to write more.

Three down, more to go.

This afternoon I submitted my third article to a certain yet-unnamed website. Well, fourth if you want to get technical about it. I wrote one this morning and submitted it but I turned around and recalled it when I got home from work. I spent all day thinking about it and decided I didn’t like the way it read.

I actually pulled posts from my old blog and reworked them to be more readable to a general audience. In my previous blog I targeted a certain audience and leaned a little too far to the smart-assy side of things in my posts. I don’t think that would go over so well in this new medium.

Freelance Writing: Taking the first step into the world of the unknown.

I have been wanting to get into freelance writing for some time now. The thought of writing content for websites and getting paid (and having residual income) is quite appealing to me. I mean, who wouldn’t like receiving a check in the mail every month to cover a few sandwiches here and there? This kid right here would.

Problem Number One was the fact that no one I found would accept content from previously unpublished writers. I’m published in the sense that I have this website and have self published my own book, but I have never written for a website before. Therefore I have nothing to credit to my name.

Fiction Friday #166

This week’s Fiction Friday prompt:

A covert trip into an attic reveals something unexpected.

I felt the need to pay homage to my favorite author again in this week’s Fiction Friday story. I have been wanting to write a story about this very subject for some time and I don’t know, it just seemed to fit.

And this is what I threw together.

Where are you?

I was reading through this post over at the Write Anything site and came across the following list of questions at the end. They really made me think. So through the magic of copy / paste, I bring them to you now.

  • Do you have space eked out that is yours, and yours alone to write? If no, why not?

Fiction Friday #165

This week’s Fiction Friday prompt:

Pick two established characters, either from your own work or others’. Now write the scene/story of their meeting.

I had loads of fun with this prompt, writing it during two lunch breaks and finishing it up tonight. This is by far my longest Fiction Friday story to date. The character William Storey is one of my own creation, from The Tale of William Storey found in Seven Days of Terror – sorry, you’ll have to buy the book if you want to read it. I decided it would be fun to have him meet my favorite Stephen King character, Roland of Gilead of the Dark Tower series.
