The second chapter of my new book is coming today!
I’ve been toying with where I want the second chapter of my new book to go for some time now. This isn’t one of those stories that just flows out of me – hey, I’ve never written a novel before – like most of my others. This one being what it is…I wish I could just channel Stephen King. In The Dark Tower, he writes of himself and in one of the seven books he says it’s more like channeling – or something like that. He also says America pays by the pound and Stephen King writes by the inch – or something like that. At any rate, the man is remarkable – a true literary genius. And speaking of the Master, I’m now over three-quarters of the way through … Read entire article »

Into the Wild
Yesterday evening I sat down to watch Into the Wild, the story of Christopher McCandless who after graduating from Emory University here in Atlanta in 1990, gave his life savings ($24,000) to charity and abandoned all of his worldly possessions and headed north to Alaska.Oh what the hell, go read about his life here. Too much to type here.Seeing this film brought back from the dead a long-lived desire to do exactly the same thing; abandon my modern life and go live off the land, free of society’s constraints and the dependency on other people to live. That was exactly what I was going to do after I graduated from High School thirteen years ago. I had planned on heading North to Canada or Alaska, even Colorado or Wyoming, in … Read entire article »

Fiction Friday #169
This week’s Fiction Friday prompt: The note taped to the door said: See you at Wild Notes Karaoke Bar. I had a little fun with this one, decided to toy with adding as much detail as possible without providing so much detail as to bore the reader. Read it through and let me know if you can tell I had to rush and finished the story in all of three minutes after Gary got out of the cab. Gary Wright’s life changed on the night of October third. It was on that fateful night that a young punk named Wally – he preferred to go by Chaz to make himself look more macho – took a baseball bat to his face and robbed him blind. What was supposed to be a date with … Read entire article »

Expression 4
Expression of 4 … Your Potential Natural Talents and Abilities Let’s see what this one comes up with. “The height of self-expression for you is when you are caught up on all of your work, the house is clean, the bills are paid and everything is in perfect order.”Um…no. Chaos is my name. “You are the number that covets civilization and all of its contents the most.”True. “If life could be defined as a machine you are the nuts and bolts that holds everything together.”Damn straight. It’s all about me! “You believe that action speaks volumes more than words and express your respect and love for others by using a practical down-to-earth approach. You believe the greatest path to your own personal truth is to live by your personal convictions.”I … Read entire article »

Fiction Friday #168
This week’s Fiction Friday prompt: The conversation took off when Louise mentioned Bruce Willis. I decided to go short and sweet again and continue playing around with dialogue. Enjoy! “I don’t know, man. The conversation really took off when Louise mentioned Bruce Willis.” Peering over the spectacles on the tip of his nose with raised eyebrows, the man sitting on the other side of the table with the handlebar mustache replied “what do you mean?” —– “Know what I want? I want a man that looks like Bruce Willis. Why can’t you look like Bruce Willis?” “Honey, I …” “Don’t honey me, you Danny DeVito lookin’ son of a bitch!” Defeated, Andrew replied (and quite cautiously) “Louise, put down the bottle.” “Louise, put down the bottle! Louise, put down the bottle! Why don’t you come over … Read entire article »

Vacation time in San Francisco
Yep, that’s where I was for a few days last week. I took my wife out there for a short vacation. In lieu of our normal Las Vegas vacation or a trip to my parents’ beach house, we decided it was time we did something different. My wife has always wanted to go to San Francisco, and the last time I was there was over twenty years ago, so I figured I’d take her out there and see some of the old sights again. We thought the flight out was going to be bad; there was a screaming baby right next to us (as in directly across the aisle) on the plane. She cried dramatically, but shut up and fell asleep as soon as we lifted off. The weather wasn’t so great and our … Read entire article »

Seven Days of Terror is now worldwide!
So today I got bored at lunch and pulled up the Internet on my pocket PC / cell phone and Googled myself. I really wanted to see if I was back up on Amazon yet – I was on there initially back when I actually released the book in April but shortly found myself unlisted – but much to my surprise I found Seven Days of Terror not only on Amazon, but being listed on websites worldwide as well.I’ve enjoyed a handful of sales since its release, enough to treat myself to a new Logitech VX Nano wireless mouse to use with my laptop. He calls it the Acer writin’ machine, he does! With global distribution available now, I may actually start selling enough to go buy that Movado watch … Read entire article »

Fiction Friday #167
This week’s Fiction Friday prompt: Strains of Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry Be Happy” floated into the room. As Eric Sandburg slid his key card into the reader next to the door – there was a small plaque above it that read Insert Card for Access. Someone had scribbled in black Sharpie below it NO SHIT. Eric chuckled every time he saw it – he let out a sigh and looked up through the wire mesh embedded glass pane at the guard on the other side. Sandburg is a burly man; high school football player, bodybuilder, black belts in both Tae-Kwon-Do and Kung-Fu. At the age of fifty he left the Marine Corps and retired, but the life bored him. This is what led him to where he is today – a part … Read entire article »
