i started applying principles
ive been reading in a book
on how to win friends
and influence people

i never would have thought
the secret lied in a book
one is simply to be nice
and smile when i meet people

i tried it just today
on the waitress at the bar
shes new to the joint
and perfect for my trial

when she came with my check
before i left the bar
i gathered up the courage
to start this little trial

so whats your name
i asked her with a smile
she looked at me blankly
and then lit up and gave me her reply

im dana nice to meet you
she said with widening smile
she extended her hand
and i shook hers in reply

nice to meet you too
i said as i gathered my things
and as i walked out the door
i looked back to see her looking at me

throughout my life
i have tried many things
to make friends that rarely worked
now people are starting to be drawn to me
