I wrote this one yesterday. This is the first thing I have written in over ten years.
I was working in the yard a few weeks ago clearing a spot for our new shed, miserable from the heat, when the wind started to blow. I decided to apply a technique I saw in Jet Li’s Fearless wherein everybody in this remote village would stand up when the wind would blow, as if to absorb its energy, and then continue working with a seemingly renewed spirit. Much to my surprise, it actually worked.

not too long ago
while toiling in the noon day sun
i decided to try something
i recently saw on screen

the villagers worked tirelessly
planting rice in the boiling heat
but when the wind blew
they would stand upright and smile

the sweat ran in rivulets
through the dust that covered me
my head began to pound
and my strength began to subside

a breeze began to blow
and i put down my saw
with a final burst of energy
i managed to stand upright

i stood quiet and still
eyes closed and hands open wide
and my arms spread slight
with back barely arched

i smiled and began to imagine
the wind brushing me clean
erasing the grime
easing the ache in my head

from root to crown
i imagined it creeping through me
filling my muscles
and renewing my strength

as the wind died down
i found myself revitalized
bursting with energy
and ready to work again

the sweat had subsided
my head was now clear
my muscles no longer sore
the feeling of peace consumed me

i took a sip of water
and again picked up my saw
quickly dispatching the job
and finishing what i had started

there is something mystical
about the blowing wind
people never take the time
to appreciate its good

now when the wind blows
when i feel a breeze
i stop what i am doing
and imagine it all again

i stand proud and tall
welcoming its power
allowing it to fill me
so i can live in happiness
